What
is a finisher and why do I need one?
If you've ever stapled something at the copy
machine, then you've use the finisher. This
piece of the copier is used to do quite a
few other things as well.
Sorting
You may already be familiar with the
stapling and sorting features from the
copiers of the past. The older analog
copiers used sorting bins which placed each
copied set into bins. If you were lucky, you
might have had 20 bins, which meant you
could sort 20 sets. You would then pull each
set out of the bins and try to keep them all
together (but separate).
Today, copying is much easier with digital
technology. The finisher has taken the place
of the sorter and bins, making life much
simpler. Now the copier will place each set
in one stack, but offset each set
about one half inch so that you can carry
them all away at once and still keep each
set separate.
Stapling
Finishers are now known for their stapling
abilities. Our Konica copiers feature
8-position stapling which allows you to
staple any of the four corners or sides,
including double-stapling.
Additional features
As you look into copier model options more
closely, you'll find that the heavier the
volume of the copier, the more advanced the
features get. The following are a few of the
features you can expect to see with one of
our finishers.
Folding
Folding can help you with many of your
day-to-day production:
- Booklets: folds booklets in half for
you, often saving hours of work (or
dollars if you currently send the work
to Kinko's)
- Letters: Three-fold is available on
certain models if you copy letters that
would then need to be folded and stuffed
for mailing.
- Brochures: Three-fold works here as
well
- Z-fold will fold your legal and
ledger documents so that you can fit
them in a 3-ring-binder
Saddle-Stitch
Saddle-stitch works hand-in-hand with the
booklet/fold feature, letting you sit back
and relax while the copier takes your
letter-sized originals and creates a
booklet. The finisher then staples them in
the middle and folds them in half to make a
professional booklet or manual in no time!
3-Hole Punch
If you're tired of running back to your
desk to grab the 3-hole punch only to find
it won't punch more than 7 sheets at a time,
let the copier do it for you. You can punch
as many sheets as you want to because the
finisher punches them one at a time. And in
case you're wondering, no speed is lost in
the process! |
